Big things, they say, come in small packages – which is certainly the case for Oranjezicht’s newest culinary gem, Bao Down. Though it’s only been open for a month or so, this Asian-American 28-seater restaurant always seems packed to the brim with regulars looking for flavoursome dishes.
Behind a green-mosaic exterior, former head chef of Chefs Warehouse, Graham Oldfield, has devised a concise menu of six mains, two sides, and a dessert of the day, while his wife Philippa has created a beautifully calm space, with soft-pink interior walls, vintage exotic-bird prints, antique mirrors and origami-esque lights.
