Description
The Parish was effectively established on 1 February 1989 with Fr Michael D Ward as the first Parish Priest. Canonical separation from the parent parish of “Our Lady of the Assumption” Brooklyn took effect on 1 August 1989.
Table View, Bloubergstrand, Melkbosstrand, Dynefontein and Morning Star fall within the parish which is bounded to the south by the Diep River and Rietvlei, to the East by Potsdam Road and part of the N7 and part of the old Darling Road, to the North by the Koeberg Power Station and to the West by the sea.
The Parish has seen and continues to experience rapid growth, as one housing development follows another, particularly in Table View where a very large area to it’s north is steadily being developed and built-up and has vast potential for future development. Examples are provided by the Blouberg Sands area between the West Coast Road and Bloubergrant; the construction of two Retirement Centres, one at Flamingo Vlei and one adjacent to Bayside Centre; as well as Sunningdale. In time to come, Melkbosstrand will grow towards the south and east and encompass some 40000 housing units, according to the existing structure plan.
