Description

On the 22nd January 1959, Minerton High School started with 28 learners, a Headmaster and one teacher. From these humble beginnings, in a prefabricated wooden building, the school has grown to a present enrolment of nearly 1100 learners and 54 teachers. At Milnerton, we pride ourselves on the very special balance we achieve, where our learners receive the advantage of a very broad curriculum, a superbly rich and diverse cultural and religious mix and an extensive sports program. The traditions of the 56 years that have gone before have been built on to make Milnerton High the school of choice in our greater community. Milnerton High is a very special place, with a very special family spirit that is all inclusive. We currently have 37 Home Languages in our school and represent every religion one can think of. The tradition that was begun in the 1980s, when all French children of the company workers that built Koeberg Power Station came to Milnerton High School has continued and developed. The strong Portuguese and Italian influences combined with the migration of Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean learners into Milnerton creates a very unique blend of learners. Our existing Jewish families remain loyal while the Indian and Muslim migration to Century City continues to expand this realm of our school. 1934081_25765266280_5453_nOver the years the school has developed its buildings and grounds to attain the levels of excellence it currently holds. In the last decade alone we will have seen the addition of a world-class Conference Centre, a competitive swimming pool and an AstroTurf. Hardworking parents on the School Governing Body, PTAs, headmasters and staff over many years deserve the praise for these achievements. Mr Paul Besener
