At Seelan, you are treated to a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere that brings a slice of the Mediterranean to the Cape coast. The restaurant is inspired by the languid dining style of the South of France and recreates the joie de vivre (joy of life) of popular French restaurants. Guests can relax in contemporary décor courtesy of Dennis Banks and enjoy sweeping views of the V&A Waterfront. The restaurant exudes a natural air of charm, reflecting the harbour in front of which it is situated. The menu is inspired by the flavours of Europe and features a wide variety of authentic cuisine alongside an outstanding wine menu, including Seelan’s very own house wine, which is made locally.
At the helm is Seelan Sundoo himself, a veteran chef and experienced restauranteer who has realised his dream of bringing his culinary vision to life. The front man of many high-end restauants, Sundoo has finally taken the opportunity to open a restaurant of his own. “When I go overseas, I always eat where the locals eat: you get good value for money, good food, consistency and excellent service - you feel at home,” Seelan says. “That’s what I want to do here: create a destination spot that’s also a home for locals.” Sundoo has drawn on his experience of local cuisine overseas to bring a truly spectacular dining experience to South Africa.
