Description
Having been a regular customer of Yoco Eatery for almost two years it was with great sadness that one day I found out that the chef behind the success of the restaurant, Jaco Redelinghuys, was moving overseas to take up a position of a sous chef at Michelin starred restaurant in Zurich whilst his business partner, Yolande, announced that she was expecting her first child, thus confirming that the eatery was up for sale. I couldn’t accept that my favourite eating place in Durbanville would become just another coffee shop of which we have many around. I liked everything about it; – interesting yet simple enough menu with a creative twist, the food made with skill, love and attention to the detail, relaxed atmosphere, professional and friendly staff as well as being located in a beautiful building with it’s wonderful art gallery and quaint courtyard.
Then I thought to myself, why not see it as an opportunity and without much hesitation I took it over, keeping it to the same principals that made it successful in the first place, whilst also trying to enhance its reputation with a slightly more personal touch when it comes to service.
I was fortunate enough to be able to keep the staff and the sous chef, Sara, who was trained so well that the transition process wasn’t as painful as it might have been otherwise.
Since I took over in August 2016, it has been a fascinating journey and I’ve yet to have any regrets seeing many of our customers enjoy coming here, sharing in the experience.
